In Poland, mushroom hunting is almost a national passtime. In the late summer and fall you find many cars parked along roads flanked by forrests. They usually indicate where there is good mushroom gathering.

And for those who do not have the time to go into the forrests, many people from the villages gather mushrooms each day and sell them on the street corners and at roadside stands.

The video to the left shows you what it is like gathering Kurki, which is the Polish word for Chanterelle mushrooms.

These are a favorite in Poland and rather safe to gather because of their distinctive color and shape.

There are others that can be confused with poisonous varieties. And, unfortuneately, that happens too many times.

Every pickiing season the news coverage in Poland shows people who have been poisoned by mushrooms and that warns people about being absolutely sure of what they are picking and eating.
