Also known as Chruściki, Faworki are one of those delicacies found at special occasions in Poland.

They are a crispy fried dough covered with powdered sugar. See the picture at the right and the video below.

They are rather simple to make. But, because each small piece is hand cut and hand twisted to shape, they are time consuming.

1 1/2 cups of flour
3 egg yolks
5 tbsp sour cream
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp spirits or vodka

Combine everything, mix and then knead to a stiff dough. Knead about 5 minutes by hand. Use a food processor to make it easier.

Roll very thin.

It is best to watch the video to see how to shape the faworki. Once you see it done, it is very simple. But to try to explain it in text is next to impossible.

Shallow or deep fry in smalec or lard for the traditional result.

Shallow or deep fry in the oil of your choice if you wish to avoid the lard.

Be sure sure to have the oil at 350 Fahrenheit or more. Below that they will pick up the oil.

Drain and cover with powdered sugar.
